Tattoo Aftercare Instructions (occlusive bandage method) for medium to large tattoos:
- Carefully remove bandage after 2 hours.
- Wash tattoo with a mild, unscented soap. Make sure to wash off any blood that may be seen on your tattoo.
- Gently pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub dry with a towel for 2 weeks.
- Massage a small amount of Burt's Bees Hand Salve or Almond/Banana Hand Lotion deep into the pores. Wrap tattoo with plastic food wrap (Saran).
- At least 3 times daily for the first week, remove the food wrap, wash the tattoo and apply Burt's Bees Hand Salve or Almond/Banana Hand Lotion as above, and re-wrap the tattoo with food wrap.
- After the first week, it is not necessary to keep the tattoo wrapped. Keep the tattoo moisturized using Burt's Bees Almond/Banana Hand Lotion, or a mild, unscented moisturizing cream.
- Rub the moisturizer deep into the pores at least once every two hours until the tattoo is completely healed.* Things to expect:
- Peeling, dry skin, and sometimes scabbing. A slight itch is not uncommon; this is due to the regrowing hair folicles. Do not pick or scratch!* Things to avoid:
- Excessive sunlight, tanning, chlorine, saunas for first two weeks of healing. Please be aware that all people heal differently. The amount of time involved in the healing process may vary. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us so we can help.
